Worldwide toll-free access numbers.
| To make a call from abroad, you need to find out the worldwide toll-free access number for the country you are calling from. When you call, you need to: | ||
| 1. | Dial the worldwide access number of the country you are calling from. | |
| 2. | Enter your calling card number and PIN | |
| 3. | Enter 011 + country code + city code + local number | |
| Note: the initial "0" (zero) is not normally a required part of the city code when dialing from one country to another. | ||
Dialing from hotels and public pay phones.
| For directory assistance from an MCI operator, use the toll-free worldwide access number for the country you are calling from. The operator will find the number you wish to call and connect you. If you wish to speak in a language other than English, just ask to be connected to an in-language operator. Additional charges apply for directory assistance. |
Toll-Free Numbers (800, 888, 877)
| You can use your MCI Calling Card to call toll-free numbers in the U.S. This makes it easy to reach customer service numbers or place catalog orders, all while you are overseas. Per minute calling card rates apply. |
Pay-Per-Call Numbers (900, 976, etc.)
| Unfortunately, pay-per-call numbers cannot be billed to your calling card. To reach a 900 number, you will have to check with the company that provided the number for alternate billing arrangements. |
Dialing from hotels and public pay phones.
| Many hotels charge very high rates for placing direct-dialed domestic and international phone calls from your room. You can save by using your MCI Calling Card for domestic and international long distance calling. Although the hotel may charge you to call a toll-free or local number, the total cost of your call can be far less than if you dial direct from your hotel room. You can also dial from a pay phone to avoid all hotel telephone surcharges.* | ||
|
Calling from Hotels in the U.S. and Canada Simply dial the number to get an outside line (usually "8" or "9"). When you hear the normal dial tone, then dial 1-800-888-8000 and follow the instructions. Calling from Overseas Hotels Ask your hotel how to get an outside line. When you have an outside line, simply dial the worldwide toll-free access number of the country where you are and follow the instructions. Some hotels prevent you from using your MCI Calling Card (so that you charge calls to your room). To avoid the high hotel rates, you may have to place your calls elsewhere (e.g., a pay phone) |

Calling from Pay Phones in the U.S. and Canada
| Just dial 1-800-888-8000 and connect*. * When using your card from a U.S. pay phone, an additional 55¢ surcharge covers an FCC mandated payment from long distance carriers to pay phone providers. |
Calling from Pay Phones Overseas
| Calling from international pay phones is just as easy as in the U.S. Just dial the worldwide toll-free access number for the country you are calling from and connect. Please note that in some countries, only certain public phones allow you to directly dial the worldwide toll-free access number. If you have questions about pay phones in specific countries, please call an MCI operator. |
Problems of using my calling card.
| Call the MCI operator to report the problem. From the U.S., dial 1-800-888-8000 (the number on your calling card) or simply dial the worldwide toll-free access number for the country you are calling from. |
Calling card security.
| We're glad that you are just as concerned about your card's security as we are. Here are some steps to help prevent the fraudulent use of your card: | ||
| 1. | Every calling card number can only be used with a PIN (your 4-digit personal identification number, or secret code). For your own protection, do NOT use your birth date, street address number, name of your spouse, an easy series like "1234" or "7777," or any other code that is easily decipherable. Choose a number that you, and only you, will be able to remember, and don't write the number down. | |
| 2. | When using your calling card in a public place such as an airport, office building, or subway, be sure to shield the number you are dialing with your hands. Unscrupulous individuals often patrol public places looking for people using calling cards so that they can copy your number and use it later to make illegal phone calls. | |
Calling card is lost or stolen.
| Call MCI immediately. In the U.S. or Canada, dial 1-800-888-8000. If you are overseas, call the worldwide toll-free access number of the country where you are. Tell the operator immediately that your card is missing. |
