What features, like Call Waiting, does The Neighborhood offer?

The Neighborhood gives you the features you need to make talking easier. You get Call Waiting, so you never miss an important call; and find out who's calling before you answer with Caller ID. Best of all, these great features are included in The Neighborhood's one low price. And, you have the option to further customize your plan by adding on other features you may want. (Features and feature descriptions may vary by state.)

Does The Neighborhood offer Voicemail?

Yes, in fact The Neighborhood offers Voicemail with convenient message notification and message retrieval. You can be alerted to new messages through your pager or e-mail with "Notify Me" alerts - and you can listen to these messages by phone or on the Web.

Can I keep my current phone number?

Yes, if The Neighborhood is available in your area, you can sign up for the plan of your choice without changing your phone number. Click here to check availability in your area.

What is the benefit of getting both local and long distance service from The Neighborhood?

The great benefit of The Neighborhood is that all your calls can cost the same whether they're to someone next door or across the country. That means you can make long distance and unlimited local calls all for one low price.

Does MCI charge a fee to switch my service to The Neighborhood?

No, MCI does not charge a fee to switch your service to The Neighborhood. However, your current local carrier may charge a small fee to switch your local toll and/or long distance carrier(s).

How long will it take for my Neighborhood service to be established?

It can take up to three weeks to switch your local and long distance service to The Neighborhood.

How will I know when my Neighborhood service has been established?

If you have signed up for The Neighborhood and want to confirm the status of your order, please call 1-888-MCI-CONFIRM (1-888-624-2663). If your service is active, you will be provided the date your service began and a listing of the most popular calling features on your account. If you are a current Neighborhood customer and have ordered new services, the status of your new services will be available as well. This service is only available to Neighborhood customers, and does not provide any additional account information. For complete Neighborhood Customer Service, please call 1-888-MCI-LOCAL (1-888-624-5622).

Also, as soon as your account is set up with The Neighborhood, you will receive a Welcome Kit in the mail that summarizes the calling plan and features you have chosen for your phone. When you receive this kit, be sure to review its contents to ensure that the calling plan and features are the ones that you selected.

Questions About Voicemail & Other Features

What will happen to my current Voicemail box when I sign up for The Neighborhood? Will I experience a delay?

As soon as your account is activated, your Neighborhood Voicemail box will immediately begin accepting messages. At this time, your old Voicemail box will be deactivated and you will no longer be able to retrieve saved messages.

How do I access my Voicemail?

Access Voicemail anywhere, anytime, with one simple number. Just follow these easy steps to access your messages or record your greeting:

Accessing Voicemail is easy. Dial 1-800-555-2522 and you will be placed directly into the Message Center. Depending on your location you may be asked to enter your home telephone number and Voicemail PIN.

Look for more details concerning your Voicemail service in the Welcome Kit you receive via U.S. Mail.


Do I need a PIN to access Voicemail?

You do not need a PIN to access Voicemail from your home phone. Dial 1-800-555-2522 and you will be placed directly into the Message Center. If you are traveling away from home you will be required to enter your Voicemail PIN. If you have not already changed your Voicemail PIN, it is defaulted to the last four digits of your telephone number.

How to access my Voicemail Sub-mailboxes?

Simply dial the last 4 digits of your phone number plus one of the numbers, depending on the total number of sub-mailboxes.

How do I retrieve, save or delete messages with my new Neighborhood Voicemail?

Simply access your Voicemail and follow the prompts on the main menu to option [1] Retrieve Messages. The system will provide further instructions to save, delete, replay, skip, fast forward or rewind messages.

Can I change my Voicemail account settings?

Yes, our Voicemail is very easy to use. Simply access your Voicemail and follow the prompts on the main menu to option [3] Account Options. The system will provide further instructions to change your Voicemail settings, access name/greetings, change your Voicemail PIN and much more.

Can I turn my Neighborhood Voicemail off?

When it comes to Voicemail, The Neighborhood provides you with choice and convenience. You may turn your Voicemail on or off anytime, anywhere by simply accessing your Voicemail and changing your Greetings to the "Not Accepting Messages Greeting." Please note: This will only turn the ability to accept Messages on/off. Your Voicemail will still play a message explaining that your Voicemail box is not accepting messages at this time.

What free features come with my Neighborhood account?

Your Neighborhood account comes with Voicemail, Call Waiting and Caller ID.

How do I use my features?

Call Waiting
Call Waiting alerts you when there's another incoming call, then it allows you to put the first caller on hold while you answer the incoming call. Simply press the receiver or "flash" button and release. This will put the first caller on hold and allow you to speak to the incoming caller. To return to the first call, press the receiver or "flash" button again.

Caller ID
Caller ID: Caller ID identifies incoming calls before you answer the phone. To activate press *65. To deactivate, press *85.


What if I don't want one of the features that automatically come as part of my Neighborhood calling plan?

The ability to make changes to your Neighborhood calling plan has been restricted in most locations. Please contact Customer Service to see if changes can be made to your calling plans.
